Nine South African renewals, ready to add

Nodus ships with ready-made renewals for the admin South Africans keep having to remember. Pick one, choose the date it is next due, and you get a to-do with steps, a repeat and a reminder already set.

RenewalRepeatsFirst reminder
Vehicle licence discEvery year30 days before
Car serviceEvery year, from the last service30 days before
Car insuranceEvery year30 days before
Discovery Vitality or medical-aid health checkEvery year30 days before
SARS tax returnEvery year30 days before
Dentist check-upEvery 6 months, from the last visit14 days before
Domain or website renewalEvery year30 days before
Driver’s licence cardEvery 5 years60 days before
PassportEvery 10 years60 days before

The long lead on the driver’s licence card and the passport is deliberate: you need time to book an appointment, not just to remember.

It renews itself when you finish it

Each template carries a few real steps. For the licence disc they are: check the expiry date, renew online or at the licensing department, pay the fee, and stick the new disc on the windscreen. For the SARS return: gather your IRP5s, medical-aid certificate and receipts, complete the return on eFiling, then submit it and keep the reference number.

When you tick the renewal done, it does not disappear. The next due date is set, the steps untick, and a banner says when it is next due, with Undo if you tapped by mistake.

Counted from the due date, or from when you did it

A licence disc expires on a fixed date, so finishing early or late does not move it. A car service is different: if it is three weeks late, the next one should be a year from the day it actually happened. Nodus lets a renewal count from either, and the templates already use the sensible one.

Your own renewals, monthly or yearly

For anything the templates miss, such as a TV licence or a gym contract, make a custom renewal: name it, choose how often it comes round (every 1 to 24 months, or every 1 to 99 years), and choose how far ahead to be reminded, or on the day itself. Custom renewals need Nodus 1.0.7 or later. You can also say it out loud: “renew my licence disc every year, it expires at the end of March” becomes a yearly renewal with the date and reminder filled in. See the voice to-do list.

What Nodus does not do

Nodus reminds you. It does not connect to SARS eFiling, a licensing department, your insurer or Home Affairs, and it does not know your actual deadlines. Enter the date on your disc, your policy or the one SARS publishes for your filing type, and do the renewal yourself.

Questions people ask

How do I get a reminder before my licence disc expires?

In Nodus, open Browse and choose Add a renewal, pick Vehicle licence disc and enter the expiry date. Nodus reminds you 30 days ahead and again on the day, then rolls the date forward a year when you mark it done.

Does Nodus connect to SARS eFiling?

No. It is a reminder, not a filing tool. The SARS tax return renewal gives you steps and a yearly reminder; you file on eFiling yourself.

Can a reminder repeat monthly?

Yes. A custom renewal can repeat every 1 to 24 months or every 1 to 99 years. Weekly repeats are handled by routines instead.

Which date do I enter for my SARS return?

The deadline SARS publishes for your filing type that year. Nodus asks you for the date; it does not look it up.

Is Nodus free?

Yes. Nodus is free to download and use, with a daily allowance and ads. Nodus Premium removes the limits and the ads.
